PSIM Is The Foundation Of Next-Generation Security Management
By Steve Hunt founder of Hunt Business Intelligence
Physical Security Information Management (PSIM, pronounced P-sim) is a concept introduced to the physical security world in 2006. The idea behind it is that all of the stuff of security is actually data; data, which once contextualized and analyzed, may become information – information for making better business decisions. It is the idea of applying the concepts of information management and business intelligence to the practices and technologies of physical and homeland security.
PSIM is not a single product but a set of processes and supporting technologies for physical security management and reporting.
Effective physical security information management requires both integration of technologies as well as coordination with the IT and security processes surrounding the management of organizational data. Physical security information management has thrived amid dynamic change in the security industry precisely because of its composite nature and multiple benefits. PSIM helps extend security services, improve efficiency and effectiveness, and allow for better accountability.
