Last Thursday I attended theGSN Homeland Security Awards banquet with my NICE colleague Mike Meader. A couple hundred people were there. I’ve always liked how GSN’s Jacob Goodwin starts the event each year with a color guard, followed by the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance. It sets a patriotic tone for the evening.
As I got a chance to meet some of the other attendees, one thing that struck me was the balance between security solution users and security solution providers, and the sense of community between them. In so many industries today these two groups seem to always be at odds – either trying to squeeze out every ounce of profit or wring out every last penny of cost. But at the awards banquet it was clear we were all united in a common cause – keeping our country, people and assets safe and secure.
Each year, the GSN banquet culminates in an awards presentation. Awards are handed out for the best IT Security Products and Solutions, the Best Physical Security Products and Solutions, and the best federal, state and local government programs, projects and initiatives. I’m excited to report that NICE was the winner in the Best Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) Solution category. This is a real honor and another indication of our leadership in thePSIM market, on the heals of our ranking as a Tier 1 PSIM Company by Frost & Sullivan, and being named the PSIM world market leader in IMS’s latest report (The World Market for PSIM Software – 2012 Edition).
I’m also pleased to share thatDenver RTD (a NICE customer) was recognized in GSN’s Most Notable Railroad/Mass Transit Security Program category. I was particularly proud that Denver RTD won this award because it shows how a world-class transit system with a vast, open infrastructure can benefit by putting our solutions into action. RTD’s Security Command Center monitors live video feeds from thousands of cameras and uses surveillance video as a vital crime fighting tool. According to Bob Grado, RTD Transit Police Commander, RTD’s video surveillance program, which uses NiceVision technology, has helped solve numerous crimes, both on and off property.
Of course, it’s always great to win an award for a product. But it’s even better when a customer who relies on your solution for day-to-day security of a major transit system is honored for their security program.
